- Going to events and handing our business cards.
- Friending people on Facebook.
- Adding people to your network on linkedin.
- Counting people who follow you on Twitter.
All those things are worthless. They have zero value.
The only networking that matters is networking that involves you helping other people achieve their goals. That means referring them to people, setting people up with other people, teaching people, leading people, connecting people, giving them access to the resources they need.
Doing this reliably and repeatedly over time is all that matters because what that will create is a network of people around you who feel they have a stake in helping you achieve your goals.
